Indigenous World Winery opened in 2016 as the first fully Indigenous owned winery in BC. The wine shop is conveniently located in Westbank, just off Highway 97 and minutes from downtown Kelowna. Experience world-class VQA wines and indigenous culture while taking in a beautiful view of Lake Okanagan. The modern facility features a wine tasting room, native themed gift shop, picnic area and indigenous inspired restaurant.
Inspiration for the Indigenous World concept comes from owners Robert and Bernice Louie’s love of their people and pride in their aboriginal heritage. The goal is to create an aboriginal themed destination that showcases indigenous people in business while highlighting the culture and traditions of indigenous people and the lands they are connected to. Indigenous World Winery is the first of many operations being developed that are also set to include a craft distillery, entertainment facility and potentially guest accommodations.
Things to do
Winery – The goal was to create world class wines that showcase the land which the Syilx people have lived on for thousands of years. With fruit sourced from premium vineyards throughout the Okanagan and Similkameen valleys, winemaker Jason Parkes has developed premium VQA wines that allow you to taste and smell the land.
Wine Shop/Tasting Room – Experience expressive wines in a beautiful wine shop that is a unique blend of traditional aboriginal art and modern style. Ancient Syilx rock paintings have been replicated in the custom made light fixtures and the long curving tasting counter. The floor to ceiling glass walls look out onto the Red Fox Club’s expansive patio overlooking the Okanagan valley and North up Lake Okanagan. Many pieces from the owner’s private collection of baskets, carvings and ceremonial garb can be seen on display throughout the shop.
Dining – The Red Fox Club is the place to try modern native cuisine. Using fresh, local, seasonal ingredients, the ever evolving menu designed by Chef Andrea Callan will have your mouth watering and wanting more. House made bannock, wild salmon and game meats are just a few of the things you will find on the menu. Soak up the Okanagan sun on the wrap around patio in the summer, or enjoy a quiet meal in the intimate dining room. The Red Fox Club is a truly unique experience.
Gift Shop – Indigenous World has a wide variety of gift ideas. In addition to your favorite Indigenous World wine, you can find great wine accessories like decanters, glassware and aerators. It is also a great place to find first nations themed gifts from haida print gift cards and journals to pocket sized “spirit charms” or locally smoked salmon. And be sure to check out the collection of original, hand-crafted art.
Indigenous World Winery is open year round. Hours vary by season.
